Towards the sky and beyond

The Aero Club Como, started its activity in the Thirties by making use of the Caproni CA 100, Breda, 15, and Breda, 25; at that time, is also acquired and used a Cant Z. 511. In the postwar period, the activity resumes with a Caproni CA 100), followed by others of the same type, and then with various Macchi MB 308, and a Republic Seabee”, the first aircraft arrived in Como of american construction.

In 1966 it acquired the first aircraft of the type of “modern” still today owned, that is the Piper PA 18.

Then comes the moment of “Cessnini” or the Cessna 150, and smaller machines, two-seater and sottopotenziate, which, however, serve honorably in the school for twenty years.

Later, in the Seventies, the Club has acquired the property, following a donation, even a Piaggio P-136, which is a twin-engine, and in 1973, acquired the first Lake, model LA-4-200, the first plane to the hull when the “Seabee” has been disposed of, which will be followed by others of the same type, and also from the model a larger and more powerful, the 250 - “Renegade”, and from 1987 to 2009.

Another plane that the Club has acquired several specimens from the Eighties until the early years of the new millennium, is the Maule M7-235, amphibious version.

But the choice that will affect favorably the activity of the Club is the abandonment of the Cessna 150 in favour of the Cessna 172besides being the model airplane building in the history of aviation (43.000 copies), it is judged the best plane-school ever produced.

The Club also acquired two Cessna 305C, a model best known with the military designation L-19, used in Korea and Vietnam.

In 2009, the Club buy a Cessna 206 with floating hydro and amphibians, providing it with accessories and modifications that make it unique in its class for performance, quiet operation and safety in use.

In the same year, it acquired a Lake LA4-200 EP, but its use in trafficatissimo the lake of Como will become more and more critical, with the deterioration in the summer season, the condition of the surface. The air – as the Lake in general, retains, however, the function of an excellent machine for travel and excursions outside by the docks larian, having features with unbeatable performance, payload, and reliability.

But finally there comes a Republic RC-3 “Seabee”, an amphibious hull with four seats, a modified engine with a 270 HP, in the framework of the project, launched in 2012, to replenish the fleet history, that the Club had at the end of the Forties of the last century. The “Seabee” is added to the Macchi MB 308 that the Club has in stock, to be restored, and at the Caproni AC100, which is not the property of the Club but is based in the hangar of Como, and the owner likes to ideally fit in the project.
