A journey in time

The project of reconstruction of the fleet, the historical, the one that the Club had at the end of the Forties of the last century, is in progress. The three historical models of the Club in the last few decades have added the Cessna “Birddog”, that the Club has, in the two specimens.

The goal, already partially built, is to have aircraft of historical value and importance at the global level, fully restored and available for a interesting flight experience of the Members of the Club and qualified visitors. Let's see, starting from the one that was not present in the fleet of the Forties:

Cessna 305 “Birddog” – Idrovolante, 1961 – Marche I-EIAX

The Cessna 305 (C305C) is a military aircraft belonged to the armed forces of the United States and then to the Light Aviation of the Army of our Country. Such is its fame for the uses of war, it is normally indicated by its military designation: L-19. Plane to be considered “antique”, it offers the pleasure of a cabin, typical of the Forties, unusually spacious, a power that was exuberant, as well as an exceptional visibility to the outside, characteristic of an aircraft designed as an “observer”.

High performance, guaranteed by motor O-470 that delivers 213 HP at 2,600 rpm.
Floats, already expected to originate from the manufacturer (as well as the ski), are the EDO 248-2440.

Republic RC-3 – Amphibious hull, 1946 – Brands N87504

In January 2013, the Club acquired, in the context of the recovery of the flottta historical, a Republic RC-3 Seabee, amphibious hull with four seats.

The plane, which was found in excellent condition, in the State of Washington, in the USA, the conversion Simulflight, with an engine of 270 HP.

Amphibious aircraft to the hull, cart, bicycle, engine with reduction gear and propeller pitch reversible. To consider that, although the design, which is very “moderna”, the Seabee all have between 66 and 67 years, since they were all 1.060 specimens manufactured from mid-1946 to mid-1947.

Macchi MB 308 – Seaplane, 1947 – Marche I-CARE

Owned by the Aero Club Como since the very first post-war period, came from the line of flight in the early Seventies, but then it was the object of a thorough restoration, which was still ongoing at the exit of this book.

The original engine is a Continental C-85 or C-90, but the Aero Club Como obtained in the Sixties certification with the engine Rolls Royce O-200, which delivers 100 HP (the same of the Cessna 150).

Floats, wooden, they were designed in 1946 by the team who had studied those of the idrocorsa Macchi-Castoldi MC-72 that fought and still holds the speed record. The plane has weight, but also the strength arising from the construction in wood, which makes it possible to adopt cantilever-wing. Very well-designed cabin, with hinged doors on the top and the command of the flap on the ceiling.

The plane is in the course of restoration.

Caproni CA 100 – Seaplane, 1935 – Marche I-ABOU

This aircraft, known familiarly as “Caproncino” is the aircraft type, the original of the local flight school, which has owned up to 14 pieces, and because it is the oldest seaplane in the world, in its original configuration and flight conditions.

The owner has the pleasure to count his plane between those of the “fleet of the historic Aero Club Como”
