on a flight.

The greatest aspiration of a person, in the early decades of the last century was to be able to get into a flying machine, and try the inexpressible thrill of flying a mythical object that man had pursued for millennia. Finally in the 20th century this became a reality. People from Como (I Comaschi) have had the opportunity to try out this experience since the beginning of aviation history, thanks to the presence of seaplanes in the city centre in 1913 at a large seaplane-flying event on the lake. Rosina Ferrario, the first Italian aviator, carried out a flight from Achilles to Landini during the event in 1913. During the same event, flights were offered to Bigi Taroni and other VIP guests. The event in 1913 was very important, as it paved the way for further seaplane events on the lake that would become famous in later decades.

Passengers descending from a seaplane in 1929. To the right an invitation for a flying.

In 1929, plans were well under way to create a seaplane base at Como. Many passenger flights were carried out to raise money for the construction of Hangar. In the 30's the school was now fully functioning, many people from Como could try the pleasure of flying and also sign up to the school to become pilots, something that was politically promoted at the time, by Italo Balbo.
The war momentarily put an end to civil flight; at the time there were no longer any planes at Como. The rebirth of activity was due to a heroic group of pilots, some ex military, that succeeded in a few years to rebuild a fleet, thanks to the proceeds of promotional flights initially carried out with the aircraft of a Milan based business, AIAX, then with their own aircraft at the club.

The epoch is that of the 16-mm film "Gli Scarponi del Cielo".

Flight promotion in recent times. The flight activity (on the left, at the water aerodrome of Milan) is always accompanied by an information action, in order to promote new associations to the Club.

In the following decades, promotional activity for flying has proven to be the best way to acquire new members, and to develop a positive attitude towards general aviation. Amongst the most important being the recurring flights for children at the Christmas period.

From the Corriere di Como, some of the 954 children taken on a flight during the christmas period of 2005 on the aircraft of the aero club, an initiative made by the sponsors and numerous members of the club..
